About Us
Building a Future Where Everyone Belongs

Our Vision
At The Sandy Foundation, we believe that accessibility shouldn’t be a checklist—it should be the foundation. We are dedicated to building a premier, inclusive community center serving tens of thousands of veterans and individuals living with disabilities across North Texas. From Midlothian to Mansfield and beyond, we are creating a space where "inclusion" isn't just a word, but a lived experience.
The Need
Despite being home to over 137,000 individuals with disabilities and 32,000 veterans, our region currently lacks a dedicated facility for adaptive sports and inclusive recreation. In fact, there is no facility of this kind within a 30-mile radius of Midlothian. We are stepping in to close that gap.

Join the Movement
We are more than just a building; we are a stronger, more connected community in the making. Your support helps us lay the first stone.

Why It Matters
"In most public spaces, people with disabilities are an afterthought. We’ve seen the narrow walkways, the inaccessible restrooms, and the lack of consideration for sensory needs. We are building a space where those who are often overlooked are thought of first."
— Alexis Ford, President & Founder
Our Mission
Beyond the architecture, we are building a culture. The Sandy Foundation focuses on:
-
Adaptive Sports: Providing competitive and recreational outlets for all abilities.
-
Inclusive Employment: Creating career opportunities for historically disadvantaged communities.
-
Education & Connection: Normalizing differences and fostering a deep sense of belonging through sensory programs and career training.
Admission to the center will be free, ensuring that every member of our community has a place to gather, play, and grow.

A Space Designed for Everyone
Our first initiative is the construction of a state-of-the-art, multi-building indoor complex. By bringing everything indoors, we ensure year-round programming, rain or shine. Our campus will feature:
-
Three Specialized Facilities: Dedicated indoor spaces for Sand, Turf, and Multisport courts.
-
True Accessibility: Extra-wide boardwalks for side-by-side wheelchair travel, sensory-friendly ground textures, and integrated technology for the hearing impaired.
-
Community Hubs: Container-style restaurants and breweries featuring local flavors, a community garden, and a "breezeway" designed for remote work, study, and connection.
-
Family-First Amenities: On-site childcare, family-style locker rooms for caretakers, and ample seating designed for all body types and abilities.
